Ann Arbor Shopping Cart Race
Well I finally found some pictures of the 7th annual Ann Arbor Hot Rod Shopping Cart Race. It's really pathetic how much I regret not being there. Suffice it to say, last year all 200-300 of us busted through a weak police block and sailed down the Main Street hill in our heavily modified, stolen shopping carts for the winning prize of a couple forties and a T-shirt. Enjoy the photos.

Flash mobs getting ugly
During a flash mob event recently held in Prague, an independent journalist attempting to photograph the gathering was beaten and detained by security guards, according to mob organizer Daniel Docekal and other participants in the event.

Docekal had organized the mob as a protest against local laws that prohibit the taking of photos or videos in supermarkets and malls.

The attack on Docekal was preceded by an attack on another mob participant.

"Only a few minutes before they attacked Kostej, they attacked another mobber, called Darkmaster, and beat him to the ground," Docekal said.

57 Octaves Down
Speaking of very low frequency sounds doing wonderous things...
in the lore of Tolkien, the universe was brought into being with the
Music of the Ainur.

Apparently, Black Holes were involved too.

The Noiseusse Eargasm
Forgive me for the blatant self-promotion. I thought some of the readers here might be interested in the tunes we make over at noiseusse.org. You won't find any long guitar solos or folk-ballad numbers. It's all 100% digital. Some of it is pretty abrasive so, you know...crank it up and make your neighbors ears bleed.

Soundless Music Shown to Produce Weird Sensations
Mysteriously snuffed out candles, weird sensations and shivers down the spine may not be due to the presence of ghosts in haunted houses but to very low frequency sound that is inaudible to humans.

British scientists have shown in a controlled experiment that the extreme bass sound known as infrasound produces a range of bizarre effects in people including anxiety, extreme sorrow and chills -- supporting popular suggestions of a link between infrasound and strange sensations.

New Demian 5 comics
Demian 5 (When I Am King) has a bunch of new stuff on his web site... it costs three bucks a year to view. A great deal if you ask me.

What ever happend to Technoccult?
I let my hosting bill lapse. Long story short: thought it was paid, it wasn't, they couldn't contact me, I spent the money. We'll be back in a week or two.

The Belzer Connection (new show on Sci-Fi Channel tonite)
Tuesday, September 9th at 10/9c & 10:30/9:30c

Tonite's panelists: Janeane Garofalo, Al Franken, Ice-T and Jim Mars discuss the possibility of a government cover-up of extraterrestrial life.

Hosted by well-known "conspiracist" Richard Belzer (Homicide: Life on the Street, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), The Belzer Connection entertains all manner of wacky theories promulgated by paranoids the world over, in an energized half-hour talk-show format.

Did Majestic-12 conceal evidence of alien visitation to Earth? Was Princess Diana murdered? You don't have to believe in conspiracies to tell Richard what you think. VOTE NOW!

Dick Cheney's Blog

Let me say this to the North Koreans: sure, we all understand that when you get a new missle you want to show it off to the neighbors, especially a nice piece of equipment like the Taepodong-2. But now is not a good time. This missle is capable of striking the United States -- which frightens our citizens. This is not the fear we want them to experience at this time. So, either convert your country into an Islamic state, or please remain peaceful and unheard from. Thanks.

Art Initiating Life
Okay, so Doonesbury today calls for a flash-mob, this Saturday, at the Seattle space-needle.

And now it's being organized. Tail...Dog....Tail...Dog...

Nearly 7 out of 10 Americans are insensate
"Nearly seven in 10 Americans believe it is likely that ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was personally involved in the Sept. 11 attacks, says a poll out almost two years after the terrorists' strike against this country. "

Ya know, I'd just like to say...nevermind. I'll just crawl back in my cave for awhile longer. Things don't seem to be getting any better out here for sane, rational people.

Ong's Hat: The Beginning
"I got really into this "time-travel cult" called Ong's Hat when a computer-game programmer I know told me she was contacted by a physics scholar who said that a bunch of her recent games reflected their canon. This dude told my friend that someone from Ong's Hat had befriended her and inspired her to create certain games without her realizing it. Whoa, right?" - Jane Magazine
