Church of Spiritual Solipsism

Will the real solipsist please stand... eh... still?

Well, since a real solipsist is somebody who pulls himself out of his own hat, all three silly looking wizards are true solipsists! Juxtaposed solipsists, kind of. And a solipsist never stands still: everybody else stands still.

Solipsism is the philosophy where only ones experiences exist, and since one only has ones own experiences, only oneself exists. There's quite a lot of "ones" and "only's" in solipsism! Solipsism means to me that you don't exist, and to you that I don't exist. So the words you're reading here must have been written by yourself and not by me, on account of me not existing. You still there? Good!

Actually you have written much more of this interesting stuff, so courageously go on to the other pages, in order to enjoy your wit and wisdom!

Hot chocolate brews health benefits
Study: Higher antioxidant concentration than tea, red wine

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Break out the marshmallows, hot cocoa lovers. Your beverage of choice contains more cancer-fighting agents than tea or red wine, according to a new study.

As winter blasts into parts of the country, people curling up with a cup of hot chocolate may be heartened to know that cocoa showed the highest antioxidant concentration among the three popular drinks, according to an article to appear in the Dec. 3 issue of the American Chemical Society's peer-reviewed Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Antioxidants are chemicals that have been shown to fight cancer, heart disease and aging by reducing the number of "free radicals" in the body.

Other studies have hailed the health benefits of red wine, but when measured on the same per-serving basis, the antioxidant concentration in hot chocolate was almost twice as strong as red wine. Cocoa's concentration was two to three times stronger than that of green tea and four to five times stronger than that of black tea, Cornell University researchers found.

Kyle’s perfect rear

Many men have long suspected it, but now it’s official: Kylie Minogue has the ideal bottom. Professor John Manning, of the University of Central Lancaster’s psychology department (don’t academics have better things to do with their time?) has decreed that the the ideal female derriere lies in the ratio between waist and hips. The Aussie songstress meets this criterion in spades. Anyway, here comes the science bit, as they say. The way to assess the perfect bottom is reached by dividing the waist measurement by the hip measurement and that this should ideally be 0.7, meaning the waist should be around a third smaller than the hips. "The bottom is a general sign of a women’s hormonal state and her general health," says the Prof’, "Fat is the key. In women it is stored in the bottom and forms a reserve that allows them to get through pregnancy."

Faulty map really 'a piece of art'
Granite image of Canada not geographically accurate, CBC admits

The lobby floor of the new CBC building on Queen Street features a map of Canada with several geographical errors laid out in beautiful granite.

After a picture of the lobby of the still-under-construction building ran in the Citizen yesterday, eagle-eyed readers noticed that the Queen Charlotte Islands off the west coast were missing and that Vancouver Island had suddenly become a peninsula. Further, that new peninsula no longer dipped below the 49th Parallel.

Yet, while the map missed out on those bits of Canada, it did not fail to incorporate what appeared to be a new province: Alaska.

It was the second time within the span of a month that a new Ottawa building with national significance was proudly unveiled, only to display a map that failed its geography test.

Last month, when the Ottawa International Airport's new terminal was opened, an alert traveller noticed that the artist-rendered map of North America -- located in the terminal's baggage area and second-floor level -- had put Atlanta in the middle of Alabama, Chicago in Wisconsin and Washington D.C. in Virginia.

Modified Food Dates To Ancients

an excerpt:

(AP) Ancient Americans were changing corn genes through selective breeding more than 4,000 years ago, according to researchers who say the modifications produced the large cobs and fat kernels that make corn one of humanity's most important foods.

In a study that compared the genes of corncobs recovered in Mexico and the southwestern United States, researchers found that three key genetic variants were systematically enhanced, probably through selective cultivation, over thousands of years.

The technique was not as sophisticated as the methods used for modern genetically modified crops, but experts said in a study released Thursday that the general effect was the same: genetic traits were amplified or introduced to create plants with improved traits and greater yield.

One third of farm animal breeds face extinction

http://www.fao.org/news/2000/001201-e.htm

an excerpt:

Every week, the world loses two breeds of its valuable domestic animal diversity, according to estimates just published in the 3rd edition of the World Watch List for Domestic Animal Diversity. The publication, issued by FAO and the United Nations Environment Programme, results from ten years of data collection in 170 countries, covering 6 500 breeds of domesticated mammals and birds: cattle, goats, sheep, buffalo, yaks, pigs, horses, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, pigeons and even ostriches.

"In the past 100 years, we have already lost about 1 000 breeds," says Keith Hammond, Senior Officer of FAO's Animal Genetic Resources Group. "Our new findings show that domestic animal breeds continue to be in danger: one third are currently at risk of extinction."

"JFK: Case Not Closed"

November 14, 2003 -- A NEW Fox News Channel special corrals an array of diverse witnesses to the assassination of John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963, and comes up with different versions of the same story.
The interviews - from observers ranging from a Dallas police officer who was riding a motorcycle directly behind the Kennedys' car to an emergency-room doctor and nurse who tried in vain to save the president's life - have been collected for "JFK: Case Not Closed," a new Fox News special airing Sunday night at 9, anchored by Greta Van Susteren and reported by Eric Shawn.

The Fox special is intent on exposing discrepancies and omissions that lend credence to the view held by many that this particular investigation is far from over.

As most people know who have followed the assassination story over the years, opinions differ about the number of shots fired that day, the paths the bullets took and even the direction from which they were fired.

One man interviewed by Fox even reports that his cheek was grazed by a ricocheting bullet that he believes came from somewhere other than the Texas School Book Depository building where Lee Harvey Oswald left a rifle covered with his fingerprints near a sixth-floor window.

"JFK: Case Not Closed" makes a pretty strong case for reopening the investigation into the murder, although the show also demonstrates that, no matter how exhaustive a new investigation might be, some parties will never be satisfied with its conclusion.

Woman Who Accused Bush of Rape Found Dead
Margie Schoedinger, the woman who allegedly filed a lawsuit against George W. Bush in December 2002, claiming that she had been raped, has died of a gunshot wound to the head, registered officially as "suicide".

The allegations were serious: the law suit apparently filed against George W. Bush in the County Civil Court in Fort Bend County, Texas, on 2nd December 2002, claimed that George Bush, the former Governor or Texas and current President of the United States of America, had committed "individual sex crimes" against her and her husband.

Margie Schoedinger further stated that after the claim, she had been harassed, that her bank account had been interfered with, that she had been threatened and beaten. She claimed 1 million USD in actual damages plus 49 million USD in punitive damages and emotional stress caused by the alleged incidents. [more]

zero-point energy from hyperspace meets the quantum foam

excerpt:

Space itself could be a system of massless structures that interact with
energy fluctuations from higher-dimensional space to produce an effect known
as the quantum foam. These massless structures can be seen with having the
potential for storing energy and therefore can acquire mass. Quantum foam can be seen as tiny bubbles of energy arising from the fabric of space. An interaction of these massless structures (that might compose space on a very microscopic level)with a hyperspatial energy flux(zero point energy field) that is orthogonal to our 3D-space may exist and it is constantly producing an infinite variety of geometrical "energy" structures. The variety of these structures that arise
should come in a wide variety(if not infinite) of geometrical patterns just
as the different geometrical patterns that arise from soap bubbles that are
produced when moving water flows through a film of liquid soap.

Quanum Metaphysics: As Above: So Below

http://www.geocities.com/nwbotanicals1/oak/newphysics/asabove.html

Abstract: Our place in cosmic history depends on the delicate interplay between the very big and the very small. Chaos and complexity theory show us that patterns tend to reiterate and persist (like fractals) at all levels of observation: “As Above; So Below.” There are a few competing theories for describing the subquantal nature of Reality in both quantum cosmology and quantum physics. The field patterns of the finest organization of energy and matter also affect the evolution of the cosmos. The various models include a non-zero cosmological constant, quintessence, tracker fields, Bohm’s implicate order, and the varying-speed-of-light (VSL) theory.

Similar mechanisms also describe the mind/matter interface--the holistic organism--the holographic mindbody. They describe how infinite pure potential becomes actualized as human consciousness--how the superposed quantum potentials collapse into a single tangible wavefunction--how mind becomes matter. Here again, there is competition for the process which describes the source or virtual groundstate of our consciousness. Can the constant fluctuation of quantum foam perturb the orbits of electrons in our neurons and bootstrap macro-canges in consciousness states? Strictly statistical and mechanical views of consciousness have failed to account for the richness of inner and outer human experience.

How are waves of possibility transduced into classical or macrocosmic forms? The models presented include Stapp’s cations, Walker’s synaptic tunneling, Penrose’s quantum gravity, Marshall’s Bose-Einstein condensate, and Goertzel’s Ons algebra, and Hammeroff’s microtubules.

The Kabbalah, Reality and Psychospiritual Transformation

excerpt:

These thirty-two interrelationships, ten phases of emanation and four states of being descending in an order of progressive differentiation create a self-directed, self-reproducing, recursive process that mathematician’s today would term a fractal holarchy. Each Sefirah is self-similar to the others in that each is a phase in the emanation process of En-Sof. Each interacts with the overall system providing feedback to the system, which directs the overall at all orders of magnitude. In these regards the system is recursive and self-similar at all orders of magnitude. “Everything is linked with everything else down to the lowest ring on the chain, and the true essence of God is above as well as below, in the heavens and on earth, nothing is outside him” (Moses de Leon in Scholem, 1995, p. 223),

crop circles
Cropcircles made by military satellites

excerpts:

Microwave laser games
As you know, with lasers it is possible to cut (fashion, dentist, etc.), bend and melt (industrial), and so forth, at great precision and from large distance. Microwave laser technology, or better, maser technology, is used at a military satellite in order to "shoot" maser beams at precisely computed locations on our planet.

This kind of satellite is aimed to destoy anything at any time at any location under any atmospheric circumstances. Such satellite is not publicly known, i.e. kept secret, of course, and is responsible for several "unresolved" airplane crashes.

Maser satellites are flying right over you and you are not safe. It is all in the game of cover-up, misusing the belief of mankind that extra-terrestials are having an artistic party overnight. Well, not so, as the militaries are playing around with masers, using computers to design nice patterns and to guide the maser beams.

In the early 1970's I started playing with mainfame computers to produce nice mathematical patterns. And sure I was not the only one. It is a common hobbyism. Nothing to do with galactic federations and Alien prophecies or symbols of universal wisdom.

Aiming a computer guided maser at high altitude towards a crop field, in about 15 seconds a large complex pattern can be projected and "cooked in", using rotating maserbeams (it would be quite unfortunate if you would be moving under the beam at such moment)

Carter offers civil liberties suggestions

Measures that restrict civil liberties in the name of fighting terrorism can backfire and spawn violence, former President Jimmy Carter warned Wednesday.

Speaking at the end of a human rights conference, Carter said governments worldwide have followed the lead of the Bush administration by enacting security laws that increase state power. He said human rights activists at the conference at the Carter Center agreed that such measures do little to deter terrorism.

"It increases the likelihood and prospect of violence," he said.

Carter praised some steps the United States has taken to safeguard itself from further attack but said others have jeopardized human rights and tarnished America's image as a bastion of freedom.

Habitat for Humanity Int'l -- Jimmy Carter and Habitat

http://www.habitat.org/how/carter.html

As President of the United States, Jimmy Carter was deeply committed to social justice and basic human rights. He and his wife Rosalynn left the White House in search of meaningful ways to contribute in these areas. In addition to promoting peace and human rights through the nonprofit Carter Center in Atlanta, they lead the Jimmy Carter Work Project (JCWP) for Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) one week each year.

Since leaving office, Carter has gained a reputation as a tireless champion for social justice. "Habitat has successfully removed the stigma of charity by substituting it with a sense of partnership. " Carter said. "The people who will live in the homes work side by side with the volunteers, so they feel very much that they are on an equal level."

Jeb Bush jokes people of San Francisco may be endangered

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Gov. Jeb Bush joked during a Florida Cabinet meeting Wednesday that the people of San Francisco may be endangered and, "That's probably good news for the country."

The subject was environmental land and Bush was looking at a map showing locations with a lot of different wildlife.

"It looks like the people of San Francisco are an endangered species, which may not be a bad thing. That's probably good news for the country."

People in the room broke into laughter

"Did I just say that out loud?" the governor asked.

Dedication. Courage. Vision. All the things we aspire to for ourselves and look for in our heroes and leaders. A study of Cecil Rhodes is an exercise in many things. One of them might be the way really good things can be perverted to the extreme.
He was a young man with a mission. The theft of an entire planet is no easy task. Fresh from the influences of imperialist Europe, Rhodes brought the fever of conquest to Afrika in a way equal in barbarity to anything ever seen on the planet. 440,656 square miles and over a thousand dead Afrikans later, in 1890, he stuck a flag into the heart of South Afrika and called the land Rhodesia, after himself.

My Life as a Phone Psychic
Not that I believe in this psychic stuff, but at one point in my life I was spending so much money having my tarot cards read at occult bookstores that I decided to do it myself. I bought a deck and discovered I had the gift. Each time I posed a question about my life, the cards so unerringly forecast frustration and disappointment that I finally stuck them in the bottom of a trunk.

I dug them out again this spring for a foray into a career as a phone psychic-the latest installment of "Human Guinea Pig," a column in which I am supposed to explore intriguing corners of life, but in which, so far, I mostly humiliate myself. (Like here, for example.) Locating openings for my extrasensory services was easy. I went to an online job site and typed "psychic" into the search engine. I sent e-mails to the three companies listed, and two-I'll call them ESP Net and Chakra Con-sent me back contracts to fill out.

Ground-breaking work in understanding of time

Mechanics, Zeno and Hawking undergo revision

excerpts:

A bold paper which has highly impressed some of the world's top physicists and been published in the August issue of Foundations of Physics Letters, seems set to change the way we think about the nature of time and its relationship to motion and classical and quantum mechanics. Much to the science world's astonishment, the work also appears to provide solutions to Zeno of Elea's famous motion paradoxes, almost 2500 years after they were originally conceived by the ancient Greek philosopher. In doing so, its unlikely author, who originally attended university for just 6 months, is drawing comparisons to Albert Einstein and beginning to field enquiries from some of the world's leading science media. This is contrast to being sniggered at by local physicists when he originally approached them with the work, and once aware it had been accepted for publication, one informing the journal of the author's lack of formal qualification in an attempt to have them reject it.

Impressed with the work is Princeton physics great, and collaborator of both Albert Einstein and Richard Feynman, John Wheeler, who said he admired Lynds' "boldness", while noting that it had often been individuals Lynds' age that "had pushed the frontiers of physics forward in the past."

According to both ancient and present day physics, objects in motion have determined relative positions. Indeed, the physics of motion from Zeno to Newton and through to today take this assumption as given. Lynds says that the paradoxes arose because people assumed wrongly that objects in motion had determined positions at any instant in time, thus freezing the bodies motion static at that instant and enabling the impossible situation of the paradoxes to be derived. "There's no such thing as an instant in time or present moment in nature. It's something entirely subjective that we project onto the world around us. That is, it's the outcome of brain function and consciousness."

Rather than the historical mathematical proof provided in the 19th century of summing an infinite series of numbers to provide a finite whole, or in the case of another paradox called the Arrow, usually thought to be solved through functional mathematics and Weierstrass' "at-at" theory, Lynds' solution to all of the paradoxes lay in the realisation of the absence of an instant in time underlying a bodies motion and that its position was constantly changing over time and never determined. He comments, "With some thought it should become clear that no matter how small the time interval, or how slowly an object moves during that interval, it is still in motion and it's position is constantly changing, so it can't have a determined relative position at any time, whether during a interval, however small, or at an instant. Indeed, if it did, it couldn't be in motion."

According to Lynds, through the derivation of the rest of physics, the absence of an instant in time and determined relative position, and consequently also velocity, necessarily means the absence of all other precisely determined physical magnitudes and values at a time, including space and time itself. He comments, "Naturally the parameter and boundary of their respective position and magnitude are naturally determinable up to the limits of possible measurement as stated by the general quantum hypothesis and Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, but this indeterminacy in precise value is not a consequence of quantum uncertainty. What this illustrates is that in relation to indeterminacy in precise physical magnitude, the micro and macroscopic are inextricably linked, both being a part of the same parcel, rather than just a case of the former underlying and contributing to the latter."

Holes in space are not empty
Universe may be full of great dark voids where rules are different.

3 November 2003
by PHILIP BALL

Different rules may apply in the dark, deserted corners of the Universe, a team of astrophysicists is proposing.

This is worrying, they warn. We simply look where the light is - like hunting for your keys only in the puddles of streetlamp light, it is about all we can do. But in so doing, we may be getting a biased view of the Universe, they argue.

Most of our Universe is composed of lightless voids, inside which stars and galaxies cannot form, say Jeremiah Ostriker of the University of Cambridge, UK, and his colleagues. But these dark regions, they argue, might not be as empty as they appear.

Astronomers have generally assumed that where there is more light, there is proportionately more matter. Some of this matter is visible, in the form of bright stars and galaxies; some of it is mysterious 'dark matter'. No one knows what dark matter is - it is detected because it exerts a gravitational pull on luminous matter.

Ostriker's team contends, however, that light is not necessarily a good way of tracing matter. Their computer simulations of the structure of the Universe indicate that light actually switches off rather abruptly as the total density of matter in space falls.

Below a certain mass density, they calculate, it becomes difficult for stars to form. Yet this darkness should not be assumed to imply emptiness.

The gloomy voids are like pieces of a "lower-density Universe", say the researchers, where there is matter but no stars. They take up 85% of the Universe, the team estimates, and contain 20% of its total mass

An Atlas of The Universe

This web page is designed to give everyone an idea of what our universe actually looks like. There are nine main maps on this web page, each one approximately ten times the scale of the previous one. The first map shows the nearest stars and then the other maps slowly expand out until we have reached the scale of the entire visible universe.

UFO News-Jacques Vallee Returns

Legendary UFO researcher shares his thoughts on UFOs

For those who thought that Jacques Vallee had quietly slipped away from the area of UFO research, think again. The legendary researcher and author recently spoke at the 2003 Internation Forum on Science, Religion and Consciousness in Portugal. Speaking with co-presenter Eric Davis, and representing the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS) - a research group set up by Robert Bigelow - Vallee's presentation was titled "Incommensurability, Orthodoxy and the Physics of High Strangeness: A 6-layer Model for Anomalous Phenomena".

The abstract of the paper reads:

The main argument presented in this paper is that continuing study of unidentified aerial phenomena (“UAP”), including “apparitions” of a religious or spiritual nature, may offer an existence theorem for new models of physical reality. The current SETI paradigm and its “assumption of mediocrity” place restrictions on forms of non-human intelligence that may be researched in our environment. A similar bias exists in the ufologists’ often-stated hypothesis that UAP, if real, must represent space visitors. Observing that both models are biased by anthropomorphism, the authors attempt to clarify the issues surrounding “high strangeness” observations by distinguishing six layers of information that can be derived from anomalous events, namely (1) physical manifestations, (2) antiphysical effects, (3) psychological factors, (4) physiological factors, (5) psychic effects and (6) cultural effects. In a further step they propose a framework for scientific analysis of unidentified phenomena that takes into account the incommensurability problem.

Excerpt from Vallee's Mesengers of Deception

http://www.virtuallystrange.net/ufo/updates/1996/dec/m25-003.shtml

an excerpt:
Major Murphy, who retired from a U.S. Intelligence service quite
a few years ago, had seen action in World War II in Italy, and also
described vividly his investigations in the Caribbean, where he
organized efforts to intercept submarines and German spies on their
way to the United States. I met him at a gathering of UFO
contactees and suggested a drink when it was over. I expressed my
surprise at his interest in the event, which I had regarded as a
complete waste of time. He asked me to clarify this judgement, and
I said that in my opinion none of the people in attendance knew
anything about science. Then he posed a question that, obvious as
it seems, had not really occurred to me: "What makes you think that
UFOs are a scientific problem?"

I replied with something to the effect that a problem was only
scientific in the way it was approached, but he would have none of
that, and he began lecturing me. First, he said, science had
certain rules. For example, it has to assume that the phenomenon it
is observing is natural in origin rather than artificial and
possibly biased. Now, the UFO phenomenon could be controlled by
alien beings. "If it is," added the Major, "then the study of it
doesn't belong in science. It belongs in Intelligence." MEANING
COUNTERESPIONAGE. And that, he pointed out, was his domain.

"Now, in the field of counterespionage, the rules are
completely different." He drew a simple diagram in my notebook.
"You are a scientist. In science there is no concept of the 'price'
of information. Suppose I gave you 95 per cent of the data
concerning a phenomenon. You're happy because you know 95 per cent
of the phenomenon. Not so in Intelligence. If I get 95 per cent of
the data, I know this is the 'cheap' part of the information. I
still need the other 5 per cent, but I will have to pay a much
higher price to get it. You see, Hitler had 95 per cent of the
information about the landing in Normandy. But he had the WRONG 95
PER CENT!"

Baboon male bonding can get a little frisky

a researcher at the University of Chicago has observed a rather forward greeting among adult male baboons, whose relationships are typically tinged with competition and aggression. The finding has raised the eyebrows of scientists because it shows the depths to which the animals are willing to go to build relationships.

The animals first make eye contact in a "come hither'' expression and then approach in a swinging gait swagger. Then there's some coy touching of the hips -- or perhaps one might turn his rump to the other. Lips might smack. And then comes the diddling, a technical term for just what you probably think it is -- fondling each other's genitalia.

Michael Savage SUCKS. Educational and Informational

The Savage Mind, an article from GQ magazine

http://www.michaelsavagesucks.com/default.asp
The Savage Mind

* Desperate to catch-up with Fox News, MSNBC hired the conservative commentator Michael Savage. It thought it was getting a ratings grabber and a New York Times-best-selling author. Instead, it qot a disaster. In a rare interview, Savage tells his side of the story. by Jake Tapper

You can be forgiven if you didn't watch Michael Savage tell a caller that he should get AIDS and die. You can be forgiven because that day a mere 123,000 people, out of passion or inertness, were watching another weekly edition of The Savage Nation on MSNBC. It was Saturday afternoon, July 5, and while most of America was occupying itself in more subdued ways, Savage, rejoicing in his anger as always, hammered away. And why shouldn't he? It was a good couple of weeks for him. Or at least for topics for his compassionately conservative show: The United States Supreme Court had not only condoned affirmative action; it had also overturned laws forbidding sodomy. The Supreme Court, Savage ranted, is "paving the way for all kinds of deviant behavior to become acceptable and even legal. And that means bestiality next." As far as Savage was concerned, America was falling apart.

Society of No: Dennis Miller - Funnyman or Fascist?
Twenty years ago if you wanted to hear preachings of hate against most of the world's population, you might have had to attend a Klan rally or Neo-Nazi meeting. You certainly weren't going to see or hear it on television. But now, thanks to our "liberal media" (Ha ha) you can just flip on the government regulated hate box (Radio or TV, the choice is yours.) and be informed that as an American, you are part of the world's current master race. Dennis Miller appeared not once, but twice on the Jay Leno show in February to preach his hip brand of hate. You don't need to turn on the tube for long these days to hear some hate-mongering toward France, and apparently, Dennis Miller and numerous other media pundits have forgotten that after the 9/11 attacks the French were the first nation to come to the aid of the U.S., flying combat missions in Afghanistan. It's interesting to note that these war-mongering super-patriots are never found anywhere near a battlefield. George W. Bush managed to avoid military service in Viet Nam, and I'm sure that Leno and Miller would have loved to serve in the military, but unfortunately it conflicted with their scheduled dates to play the Ha-Ha Club. Isn't it interesting that Leno always performs with an American flag in his lapel. Here's a guy who makes millions of dollars tearing down this country on a nightly basis, and somehow sees himself as a patriot. Here is the transcript of the first of the two appearances Miller made on Leno in February. I have to let you know that in his subsequent apperance on Leno, February 25th, Miller literally advocated criminal assaults on peace demonstrators!!! It's safe to say that Miller has a lot more in common with the thugs who took over Germany in the 1930's than he'd care to admit.

THE BLACK BOOK Volume I: Principles of Extreme Living
Christopher S. Hyatt, Ph.D. & Dr. Jack Willis
Illustrated by S. Jason Black
What is The Black Book? It's the first of a series of seven booklets from Dr. Hyatt and the Extreme Individual Institute. Little more can be said lest it give away its intention and reduce its impact.

THE PSYCHOPATH'S BIBLE: Second Edition
For the Extreme Individual
Christopher S. Hyatt, Ph.D.
with Dr. Jack Willis & Nicholas Tharcher
In the most of the world, psychopaths have gotten a bad rap. That, of course, is quite understandable since almost all of the world's religious and social philosophies have little use for the individual except as a tool to be placed in service to their notion of something else: 'God,' or the 'collective,' or the 'higher good' or some other equally undefinable term. Only rarely, such as in Zen; in Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism; in some aspects of Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism; and in some schools of Existentialism, is the individual considered primal. Here, finally, is a book which celebrates, encourages and educates the best part of ourselves --- The Psychopath.

This second revised edition includes over 100 pages of new 'workbook' material including exercises, 'tests' and techniques.

Sweet Jesus, I Hate Bill O'Reilly

Thursday, November 06, 2003

bill hates the ACLU. yawn. some kid was suspended for calling their principal a skank, and then a legal expert, a judge, decided that the state's verbal assault laws were too vague to be enforced, but that the kid could still be punished. bill, of course, ignores the reality of the fact that the kid's still going to get punished, because he's stupid.

---------
Once again vicious speech is labeled a parody, a satire. It's obvious what's going on here. Attacked speech is hiding behind these erroneous labels. Incredibly, the ACLU won its case. A federal judge, David Lawson, ruled that Michigan's verbal assault law is unconstitutionally broad and vague and therefore cannot be enforced.

Necrophilia: Raising the Dead to Find a Man Who Will Both Agree With Me and Go Out With Me
Necrophilia: Raising the Dead to Find a Man Who Will Both Agree With Me and Go Out With Me
by Ann Coulter

Editorial Reviews

Book Description

When author, conservative celebrity, and frequent talk-show guest Ann Coulter published her last book, Treason, in which she revealed her intellectual attraction for disgraced American Senator Joe McCarthy and advanced the curiously un-American thesis that anyone who disagrees with her is un-American, the left and right alike wondered where she could possible go from there.

Now we know, and it's even more shocking and incredible than anybody imagined. It turns out that Coulter wasn't happy just fabricating facts, calling people names, and torturing logic for hire on TV and in best selling books. She wanted a personal life, too. But as so many supermodels and racehorses know, when you're in the public eye, people - especially men - are intimidated by you, and so it's quite possible to be both leggy and lonely.

Over the years, as she traveled the country spreading bile, invective, and misinformation, Ann cried herself to sleep countless times, wondering why all those married right-wing talk show hosts and Republican Congressional leaders preferred to go home with pliant, brainless, Democratic women than allow themselves to be challenged by a true Republican gal. She began to resign herself to being forever alone.

But then it happened: As she opened up her imagination to new possibilities, Ann discovered two men who listened to what what she said, respected her as a person, and appreciated her as a woman. They were powerful, rich, intelligent, and, most of all, profoundly Conservative. They were handsome to boot, and wonderful public speakers. So what if both men were dead? In Ann's imagination, at least, they hung on her every word and her every curve, and they always called her when they promised they would. Somehow, somewhere in the back of her mind, behind all the made up facts and fudged statistics she kept on hand to illustrate her points on TV, Ann knew that her two new boyfriends were imaginary. She knew that they were really dead guys. But that didn't matter. They satisfied her needs, in every way imaginable, more, much more than any living men had ever been able to do.

Oh, what men they were! "El Douche" and "Adolfo," she called them, as she allowed them to compete fiercely for her affections. It was an exhausting roundelay that made each encounter more exciting. But one day, after she had, in her fancy, begged both fascist leaders to ravage her repeatedly, separately and then together, Ann ran out of batteries. Well, not her, but the little, magical, oscillating device that gave reality to her wild imaginings. And that day, Ann decided that her fantasy was getting out of hand, and that she must sadly end it.

But almost as quickly, she realized that her fantasy had a pure core of truth, that these two men, despised though they may be by history and humanity as dictators and mass murderers, truly spoke to her heart, not only sexually, but intellectually. More importantly, they represented to her the hidden heart of conservatism that she so loved and believed in. Thus a book was born. Ann's romantic reveries turned into a series of dialogues between the Conservative It Girl and the two dead leaders. Through them, she found insight into the Democrats' culpability for everything that is wrong in America, and wonderfully creative suggestions for a final solution to the "Liberal Problem".

The result is as controversial as it is gripping; as intellectual as it is erotic. It's a stunning masterpiece of self-love, self-promotion, and self-creation. The only question it leaves unanswered is "What will Ann do next?"

Atomic Bombing: How to Protect Yourself
In American democracy one of the fundamental principles is that the people shall know what is happening and what is likely to happen. Freedom of information -- the right to know -- is implicit in the American system. It is for that reason that our government and the public officials and scientists involved, are backed by public opinion when it reveals all that it can about atomic energy that can be told without giving aid and comfort to a potential enemy.

This right and duty to publish what the people wish to know and should know motivates this book, as it does the whole civilian defense program of our nation confronted by atomic danger from without.

The facts within this book and the conclusions reached, not always pleasant and reassuring, will serve to alert and safeguard not alone the ordinary citizen, but many members of the great body of public officials, ranging from those in villages to the Federal Government itself.

The information conveyed in this book is of necessity a part of the American scene today. Those of us who have to confront the dangers of atomic attack should rejoice that we at least, unlike those behind the Iron Curtain, have some immunizing appreciation of these dangers. When danger is known, something can be done about it. Ignorance is a breeder of false security. We are convinced here in America that the right to know is as precious as our strength to resist the forces in the world which would like to enslave us in ignorance.

Museum of Talking Boards: An Online Museum of Ouija Boards

"Ouija knows all the answers. Weird and mysterious. Surpasses, in its unique results, mind reading, clairvoyance and second sight. It furnishes never failing amusement and recreation for the entire family. As unexplainable as Hindu magic — more intense and absorbingly interesting than a mystery story. Ouija gives you entertainment you have never experienced. It draws the two people using it into close companionship and weaves about them a feeling of mysterious isolation. Unquestionably the most fascinating entertainment for modern people and modern life."

With these words, William Fuld (businessman, designer, toy maker, with no branch factories or offices) invites you, the American people, to enter the strange, twilight world of Ouija, the Wonderful Talking Board.

No other single, mass-produced item quite captures the imagination of the American public like the Ouija board. Is it just a toy as many claim, or is it a portal to a spirit realm where one may find the answers to life's many mysteries? Does the Ouija sometimes take on a life of its own? Is it an implement of enlightenment, or a doorway to disaster? Questions like these continue to intrigue after a hundred years and are what makes the Ouija board extraordinary and truly magical.

From 1890 to 1950 dozens of different manufacturers with names like Kennard, Fuld, Haskelite, and Lee, cranked out their unique versions of the Wonderful Talking Board. Some of these boards displayed fanciful images of pyramids, swamis, and strange, mystical places. Others were more akin to Halloween with pictures of black cats, witches, and devils. Some boards, cheaply made, were simply poor imitations of the more successful ones. Despite their popular appeal, most talking boards were used a couple of times, shelved, and eventually thrown away. This resulted in the tragic loss of a fascinating American art form. At the Museum of Talking Boards, we think that it's time we celebrated this forgotten art. So come along with us as we display the boards, give you a little history, and if we don't answer all of your questions, feel free to ask the Ouija.

Even though it has more sand than it has oil, Saudi Arabia has implemented a ban on exporting sand. It has strict border checks to enforce the ban. Apparently, there is a fear the construction industry will suck up much of its sand.
Iraq will need more sand when reconstruction increases its pace. Bahrain needs sand to regain land the sea has swept away. Domestic demand is high too and cement factories in Saudi Arabia have expanded production.
Despite these demands for sand, many are skeptical about the export ban. Bagging and transporting sand is a very expensive process. Some say they should focus on reducing the costs to create a valuable industry in a land where sand is plentiful.

Sniff This

Sniffy-pooh

MissTifEye sez: The beguiling quirkiness of Paul Ash's writings and performances come through brilliantly in his website. Paul's zine-style print projects, e-books, & paperbacks feature his own work, including the just-released compendium, "What I Think About When I Go to the Job." Other writers and artists are published on the Sniffy Linings website, an uber-cute experience glued together by dreamy quotes from musicians.

Ong's Hat: The Beginning
"I got really into this "time-travel cult" called Ong's Hat when a computer-game programmer I know told me she was contacted by a physics scholar who said that a bunch of her recent games reflected their canon. This dude told my friend that someone from Ong's Hat had befriended her and inspired her to create certain games without her realizing it. Whoa, right?" - Jane Magazine
