Ten Thousand Monkeys: 62nd issue
"Holy Macarel this is late! Wow, that must have been some New Years bash I attended. I'm not even going to try come up with any clever excuses, but, well, as is often said, better late than never, right?
Please to enjoy Ten Thousand Monkey's 62nd issue ... our official '2004 looks like it's gonna be great if we can ever get our eyes open again after the end of 2003' issue. "

Raging Against The Machine

Charles Booher was arrested for emailing death threats to a company he thought was spamming him with penis pill popups. DM Contact's Doug Mackay swears he's not behind the Internet spam plague, and that enlargement potion pusher Leading Edge Marketing is just a client. But a Metro investigation reveals that Leading Edge Marketing registered in the same province as DM Marketing, under his brother's name: Geoffrey Mackay. So maybe Booher harassed the right guy after all.

Comic DVDs are giving superheroes a new life.
From movies to figurines, the comic book industry seems to know no bounds in its merchandising and promotions. The latest form of comic merchandise is the Digital Comic Book (DCB). A DCB is a DVD that merges traditional comic book cells with film. Each comic panel is enlarged to a full-screen image and is enhanced with sound effects and actors’ voices bringing the story to life; extra features include footage from the particular comic’s original issue, as well as offers for free comic books. DCBs can be played on DVD players and as digital data files on computers. In conjunction with Intec Interactive, comic publishers CrossGen and Marvel are issuing DCBs and current volumes include the Hulk, X-Men, Wolverine, and Scion, among many others.

While DCBs will probably never replace comic books altogether, we do think this new format could help introduce the younger, more tech-savvy, generation to the comic genre, and serve as a supplement to committed comic fans. As we've mentioned, we've noticed more people are creating personal collections as a way to “brand” themselves while maintaining individuality. As comics increasingly become premium collectibles (classics can fetch up to $80), DCBs, at $10-$14, are sometimes a more affordable option. However, we won’t be surprised if DCBs show up on eBay a decade from now with inflated prices.

Percival's Planet
As the Spirit rover attempts to detect traces of water on Mars, let's hearken back to a hundred years ago when the astronomer Percival Lowell championed Martian water, and the canals that surely carried it's flows from the polar ice caps.

Specific Speed & Transmutation
The following is from 'Dweller on Two Planets - An Earth Dwellers Return' which was copyrighted in 1940 and reprinted by Borden Publishing in 1969. This information was graciously sent by an anonymous friend in .pdf format following a request on the Interact discussion list.

There are clearly two versions of the book, with the original having the Specific Speed chapter and most later copies having it removed from the book by person or groups unknown and for reasons unknown.

Get your BOT on!
Sunday's guests on Coast to Coast AM (still available as a stream today), George Ure (urbansurvival.com) and his colleague, known only as 'Cliff' (website) discussed web bots, a new technology that they believe has the ability to forecast major world events. "

As usual, you'll have to suffer as potentially interesting guests on Coast to Coast were not allowed to talk enough, and had to indulge way too many stupid questions. However, you may research it yourself. As many of you know, this project and the Princeton EGG project are tangential to another project based here (which has gone underground due to a very real interest from various alphabet soup organizations). If you're wondering what's up with MetaMachine, keep your eyes on the Open Source community. (nuff said)

Everything Is Under Control
With this conspiratorial look back at the most offbeat stories of the year, we show that, in 2003, Nu-z had to go to extremes to get the news

Here in the Nüz hole, we hear a lot of weird tales in the course of any given year. Horses that talk. People who see fairies. Crystals that transport you through time. Cities that try to outlaw juggling.

And we hear from a lot of strange people. Politicians, paranormals and people who, to be frank, are terminally paranoid (and think this sentence is about them).

9-11 Made Simple
by valis
This was why the attack was planned.

This was where the attack was planned.

This was where the terrorists trained.

This was where they learned to fly.

These were the warnings.

This was the distraction.

This was where the "official" story was created.

This was the result.

Ong's Hat: The Beginning
"I got really into this "time-travel cult" called Ong's Hat when a computer-game programmer I know told me she was contacted by a physics scholar who said that a bunch of her recent games reflected their canon. This dude told my friend that someone from Ong's Hat had befriended her and inspired her to create certain games without her realizing it. Whoa, right?" - Jane Magazine
