Barry Kavanagh
Contributing Writer
(Dublin, Ireland)

1. Emil Gilels - Beethoven piano sonatas Nos. 8,21 & 23. Deutsche Grammophon CD.

2. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: No More Shall We Part album & live show. Cave is reunited with the Bad Seeds for nights of fire and noise.

3. Kristin Hersh Sunny Border Blue album. A cohesive acoustic-electric catharsis.

4. The Divine Comedy Regeneration album. Neil Hannon is a great songwriter and this time he's experimenting with very direct messages. Nice.

5. Edward Gibbon's Decline & Fall of the Roman Empire. Skeptical, witty, ironic, written in the 1770's and '80s but still definitive.

6. Turin Brakes The Optimist album. Melodious maladies.

7. Knut Hamsun's Mysteries. The classic novel from 1892, Bothmer translation. The people of a small Norwegian town have to listen to the main character's dreamlike stories - and he can't shut up.

8. The films of "Beat" Takeshi Kitano, especially Sonatine(1993), Hana-Bi (1997) and Kikujiro (1999). Visually stunning, genre-annihilating, idiosyncratic and imaginative.

9. Voting against the Treaty of Nice. This is the third European treaty in nine years. What's the damned hurry?

10. Existence.

Rudy Rucker
Signum’s Lil’ Helper
(San Francisco, California, USA)

1. TheFirstTwins.com - Shit, damn! George W. Bush has two twin daughters. They are the product of fertility pills and not enough people are aware. This site has a couple of 'buried' links to some neat stuff...

2. CycleCide.com - Drunk punks make choppers, tall bikes, and put on quite a Bike Rodeo.

3. Anton Maiden - A teenage kid from Norway does karaoke to Iron Maiden turns which he has turned into synthed-out midi tunes. May I recommend Spar 9 - Can I Play With Madness to you?

4. Furbeowulf - Okay, now you are going to think all my Top 10 things are website related... oh well! This is a site about parallel computer technology (based on Beowulf Clustering) which is fun by modified Furbies.

5. Shrimpmeat.net - My sister, Isabel, runs this site. It has lots of neat photos, articles, and life advice. May I recommend you read up on Feng Shui, drink 4 coffees, and then rearrange your room?

6. Vaginal Croutons

7. MonkeyView.net - Okay, I geek out and spend a lot of time on the 'puter... This site is a combo: I wrote the back end, but complete stragers are using this free web-photo-server to post their photos.

8. Tultepec, Mexico - This is a small city about 2 hours north of Mexico City. 70% of the town's residents work in fireworks factories. This is the main fireworks production center of Mexico. In the first week or two of March, they have a ten day fireworks festival. I went there this year. See you there in 2002?

9. Cephalopods - Suid, Octopus, and Cuttlefish make are in the Mollusca Phylum and -- more specifically -- in the Class Cephalopoda. Here is a site with a bunch of photos:
