"Rich but fluffy, like a good birthday cake, layered with Esquivelian goofiness and sprinkled with electronic candy."

Tipsy ~ Uh Oh!
(Asphodel)

Uh Oh! might take a few listens to get under your skin, but once there, it’ll burble in your veins. A sense of extravagant experimentation intertwines with lounge-a-riffic giddiness in the electro-exotica musical explorations of Dave Gardner and Tim Digullia. Their sophomore effort is rich but fluffy, like a good birthday cake, layered with Esquivelian goofiness and sprinkled with electronic candy. Songs like "Suez Motel" and "Seaweed" expose the pleasantly dark underbelly of these San Francisco mood builders; wonderfully mysterious soundtracks result. By contrast, chirpy bubbling numbers like "XXXmas" seem trite.

While their debut disc, Trip Tease, was catchier, it was also a bit more predictable, a bit shallower in its adorable retro sensibility. Uh Oh! shows that Tipsy won’t be content to ride a passing fad or trot out their one-trick pony for every occasion. We can undoubtedly look for a sophisticated evolution as they further investigate past musical forms and newly-conceived sonic realms. –Tiffany Lee Brown
