<<rinôçérôse>> ~ Installation Sonore

V2

You know, there just aren’t enough techronica bands incorporating flute. Or triangle, or bongos, or harmonica, or maracas for that matter. And of course, hardly any raveheads get a chance to really shake and squirm to the lovely sounds of the triangle. That is, until this Rinocerose burst out of the speakers. These two delightfully demented French music-makers are psychologists by day, but by night they derail common conceptions of what electronic music is all about and make the masses move in the process.

This album is so interesting, bizarre, and brilliant it’s just plain scary. Simple techno beats provide the booty-shaking base for elements as diverse as samba, watery jazz, slick soul, fluffy funk, dub, spy themes, covert pop, good old guitar, and ambient amblings. All are cleverly sewn together to create resplendant, almost overwhelming sonic tapestry that seems to have it’s own gravitational pull. With Installation Sonore (Aural Installation), Rinocerose has achieved the unlikely–unleashed an album that is hypnotic both on and off the dancefloor while employing some of the loneliest instruments in the world. –Scott D.
